Le Meridien Resort Karon Beach Phuket

What a find!  Le Meridien Resort on Karon Beach is a secluded property complete with its own private cove and idyllic beach!  We loved this place and could have stayed for weeks, relaxing and taking in the great atmosphere, fabulous dining choices and ample structured, and unstructured, activities.  The grounds are well-manicured and the interiors are clean with all of the conveniences you need.

When it comes to eating and drinking, you are certainly spoiled  for choice at Le Meridien.  With 10 bars/ restaurants at your disposal, there is simply no excuse to grow bored, hungry, or thirsty.  One of   our favorite eateries was Pakarang Restaurant.  Facing the lagoon, Pakarang serves a  variety of Thai and Western dishes, and in the morning, doubles as the spot to grab the extensive buffet breakfast.  There is also a French restaurant called Le CafĂ© Fleuri, a Japanese outfit dubbed Ariake, and a cozy Italian spot named Portofino.

For traditional Thai, check out Wang Warin.  Jonesing for pizza?  La Fiamma is the perfect respite from a midday rainstorm!  If you are beachside, the Tonson Bar, Le Patong Bar and Sunset Bar all serve snacks as well as mouthwatering tropical drinks.  (A beach  accessible barbecue seemed to be a favorite with the visiting families each day.)  All of the eateries allow you to charge the bill, and that pesky add-on service charge, to your room.  While it may seem expensive as you are signing away on bill after bill, our tally at the end of our stay was considerably less than we anticipated.  But who cares?  The quality is high, and exactly what you want from a resort that you have absolutely no desire to escape from!

Seeing that we were only staying for four nights at Le Meridien, we decided to spend as much time as possible on the beach.  There are, however, many other extra-curricular activities on hand at the resort.  Cooking classes, squash and tennis courts compete for attention with a full-service spa and fitness center.  There is even a club for kids in case it is raining, or the teens are tired of playing on the beach.  At sunset, you can expect live music and entertainment beachside.  (Fire-swallowers, anyone?)  As a good friend of ours Janet Coleman would say, "There's something for everyone!"

Set of Drifters tip:  Make sure to check out the private beach at moonlight, if only to view the whimsical activities of the many crabs that  call the cove home.  The sand- colored critters scatter beneath your feet and crawl into the tightest of spaces.  But it's their reemergence from the sand that is the most impressive.  Out of the corner of your eye you might spot of series of tiny pellets popping out of the sand!  The formations which appear on the surface of the beach are actually    created by the crabs as they tunnel out from underground.  The unexpected designs are truly impressive!
