Traveling To/ From Phuket

The island of Phuket is easily accessed from the mainland by air or by car.  We took Thai Airways from a stopover in Chiang Mai and flew back to Bangkok on our way out.  The airport is on the northern end of the island so if you are staying on the southern tip, be prepared for a long drive - and hefty cab fare.  (Remember, it is always best to negotiate the price ahead of time before leaving the airport!)  You might also want to check with your hotel ahead of time to see if they have shuttles leaving to and from the island.

For sundries and other everyday items, Patong may be your best bet after all, that is unless you don't mind paying resort prices at the gift shop where you are staying.  Patong even has its own "upscale" shopping mall, the Jungceylon Shopping Complex, which we only braved to use the restroom!  That place was a veritable madhouse, even though it lacked any shopping options of any real interest.  (Paul Frank is about as good as it gets.)

Ugh, get us back to the beach!
